Here fishy fishy fishy......

So we got a fish tank for Xander several months ago. We were planning on getting him some fish for it about a week later...once the tank water was established. Well, that didn't happen. We ended up basically using the fish tank for "white noise" and a night light.
Well, we took Xander to Petsmart yesterday and we picked out four fish for his tank.
We got three Mickey Mouse platies and one other kind of platy...can't remember which kind it is called....oh well.
We liked the Mickey Mouse ones because they have black spots on their tails that look like a Mickey Mouse head. So cute.
Anytime Xander sees a fish he puckers his lips and makes a kissy sound and then a pop sound...hard to describe but just like when you make a fishy face...ya know what I am talking about? Anyway, he hasn't really gotten the whole concept that you name the fish. So since he only says a few words we decided to name each fish some of Xander's favorite words. There is BUS, TRUCK (which he pronounces "ducksh"), THIS and DOOR.
Anyway, here are some pictures of his new fish...

Here he is just after he finished making the fishy face...every time I snapped a picture it didn't take until he was done with the face....UGH! Oh well, at least I got Tracy making the face. LOL

Here fishy fishy fishy....

Hello fish!

Welcome to Xander's room! Please keep your fins and gills inside the tank at all times. Enjoy your life in your new digs!

We put it up on his dresser so he couldn't reach it but could still see it.

Fish are so fun to watch but not fun to clean their tanks, ewww gross! We have never been pet people (because I am soooo allergic to animals and the African frogs we had died, 3 times we killed these poor frogs and decided that pets were not for us), including fish until Jaycie's preschool sent her home with one (without the parents permission, nice huh). I went and bought a fish bowl, rocks and a plant for it and it lasted awhile and then we got lazy with cleaning the bowl and it eventually died. I vowed to never have a pet again....until Bryce received a fish from preschool from his buddy as a Christmas gift (again, without our permission). I had told him that if they gave him a fish to say, "No thanks, my mommy is allergic to animals" (Which is true minus the fish thing, but I am allergic to cleaning the tank, well lazy okay I admit it.) He obviously forgot what I said because he came home with it anyway. When I told him we were just going to give it back to the fish store he freaked out. So we pulled out the old fish bowl, yet again. It died within a week. Bryce was sooo sad so I finally agreed we could go get him another one. They told me that the old rocks probably were contaminated since a fish had died in there before and that is what killed his fish. So we bought new rocks and 2 new fish (he wanted a friend), so here we go again. Us non-pet people with a pet for the sake of our kids. Ha ha. What can you do? At least Colby said he would be in charge of cleaning out the bowl this time. Good luck with yours. They are really fun to watch and the kids love them!

We have had fish before...in our first marriage. We had a huge 55 gallon tank but Tracy is always the one to clean it out and stuff so I never really have to worry about it. He is really into making sure the water Ph is correct and doing all sorts of fish tank stuff so hopefully this experience for Xander will be a good one. At this point, he wouldn't really notice if one or more of them died so it wouldn't be so tragic if that happened but I think we are doing ok....they seem happy. Well, the light bulb from the tank burnt out last night so we have to go get a new one. We left it on all the time when there wasn't any fish in it....I guess that makes them burn out faster. So we need to go get a new one so they have a day time instead of night time all the time. I am in charge of feeding them but that is no big deal.
We will keep you guys posted on how it goes. LOL

Love the fishies. You'll have to let me know how they do. Carden is in a fish phase right now and really wants one for his birthday.
Have fun! Cute pics.

For the most part I like fish. They are so relaxing to watch and it's nice to listen to the tank bubble. I liked our big fish tank growing up and I had four goldfish in my room as a teenager. Maddie had a Black Molly fish that lived a year. We got a beta fish to replace it, but it only lived a day. Since that tragedy I haven't done fish again. But I think I reused the decorative log in the tank. After what Jamie wrote above that might be why the beta died so quickly. Perhaps a new bowl and stuff would help. I like Xander's tank and fish. Good luck!

Carden, Mandy's boy has a fake bowl and 2 fake fish and he feeds them fake food that are soft pellet gun pellets. (Don't know where he got the pellets) Sorry we didn't call you when I was in McKinney. We were all sick with sinus infections and didn't think X would like a relapse. It went way too fast and I still have a killer sinus headache! Good fishing!
